Ich fürchte, die Sitzposition auf meinem neuen Rad ist noch nicht so ganz optimal.

Weekend flashback to Norderstedt Triathlon (organized by @norderstedt_events) while digging through pictures and videos (here: taken by @meltrifri) on my NAS.
It was an olympic distance.
Swim: Total failure (no wetsuit).
Bike: new PB over 40km (yay!).
Run: decent, considering the fact that I had only run about 120km all season long before this race due to plantar fasciitis.

2018, around this time of year. Yes, of course we know that Halloween is celebrated a lot differently in the US than here in Germany, but it was really weird to have the sunshine of Key West in southern Florida and the cobwebs, skulls and witches of Halloween at the exact same time. Probably because we are used to Halloween being in fall (cold, dark, windy, rainy). It just doesn't fit. 😉 Must be like Christmas in Australia - beach party instead of snowy trees.

"You never forget the first time you reach the red carpet at the finish line of your first Ironman" - that's what everybody says. OK, the Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote was a half Ironman, but essentially this shouldn't change much. But to me this experience was... different. The race got shortened the day before raceday, because the government cancelled the swim due to dangerous undercurrents, making it the #im691lanzarote instead of #im703lanzarote. The wind on raceday was brutal, 40km/h headwinds with gusts up to 70km/h and more, mostly during the uphill parts - to me this meant 400W and more while doing 13km/h. The stretches with tailwind through the firemountains meant 65km/h on plain sections. On the descent from Femés to Playa Blanca I topped out coasting (!) at far over 80km/h - my weight actually was my advantage here (speed and weight stabilize the bike). The water bottles handed out at the aid stations were no bike bottles, they didn't fit into the bottle cages - so I lost them on rough asphalt. I started the half marathon running, but couldn't keep up for long. It became a veeery long walk, with no shadow, no showers, no salt and only a handful of ice. When crossing the finish line I was just happy that it was over. I could continue the list of shortcomings in the organization of this event, but I'll do that another time. Thanks to @meltrifri for bearing with my bad mood that day, but I never felt so miserable before. Too much went wrong, with my health, my preparation, everything. Yes, I finished the Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote, but that's about it.
